Van Zagreb tot aan Dubrovnik

About the destination: Often forgotten by tourist seeking the sun and coastline, Zagreb is an alluring destination on its own. The capital city of Croatia is a perfect mixture of Western and Eastern Europe. The sober Austro-Hungarian buildings are surrounded by chic restaurants and boutiques that contrast with the seedy pubs and loud beer halls. Zagreb offers a wide choice for visitors. From trendy art galleries to more traditional music halls and museums, and outdoor leisure, a lot of outdoor leisure. Maksimir Park, in the east, is filled with joggers, bikers and strollers. In the southeast of the city, we find Jarun Lake, where locals and tourists alike go to swim or sail and to, afterwards, dance the night away in a lakeside disco. Just a ride away on the shine new trams, we find Mt Medvednica that offers hiking, skiing and great views over the city. Either you are looking for a city break or a break from your lazy beach holidays, Zagreb won’t disappoint visitors in the slightest.

About the destination: Opatija is a town in western Croatia, just southwest of Rijeka on the Adriatic coast. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • The Anglina Park. It is the building that marked the beginning of the tourist epoch in this town. • The Park of Sv. Jakov. It is a horticultural monument and is dividen into 60 fields and about 159 plants species grow there. • The fountain (Helios and Selena). It is located in a beautiful park opposite the imperial hotel near the church of St. Jacobs. • Maiden with the Seagull. • St. Jacov´s Church. • Monument to Friedrich Julius Schuller

About the destination: Krk is a Croatian island in the northern Adriatic Sea, located near Rijeka in the Bay of Kvarner and part of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County. For many years, Krk has been thought to be the largest Adriatic island, although recent measurements now give the neighboring island of Cres an equal surface area; it is the most populous Adriatic island, with numerous towns and villages. On the island Krk there are several dozen marked tourist paths which lead through the woods and by the sea shore. There are printed guides available at any tourist office. The underwater world around the island of Krk is very interesting, and there are several local and international diving clubs. In the woods, lovers of nature and hunting can come across the fox, roe-buck, wild cat and marten while there are also some birds like the snipe, wild duck, griffon vulture and several other types.

About the destination: Within the boundaries of this heavily forested national park, 16 crystalline lakes tumble into each other via a series of waterfalls and cascades. The mineral-rich waters carve through the rock, depositing tufa in continually changing formations. Clouds of butterflies drift above the 18km of wooden footbridges and pathways that snake around the edges and across the rumbling water.

About the destination: Trogir is a historic town and harbour on the Adriatic coast in Split-Dalmatia County, Croatia. The historic city of Trogir is situated on a small island between the Croatian mainland and the island of Čiovo. Since 1997, the historic centre of Trogir has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Trogir is a jewel of a town encased in 15th-century walls. Tiny medieval streets wind through the enchanting town revealing hidden restaurants and eye-catching galleries. A wide seaside promenade snakes around the town, culminating in a charming port full of sailboats waiting to take you to the islands of Drvenik Mali and Drvenik Veli with their pristine sand beaches and secluded coves. The ancient ruins of the Roman city of Solin are also just a short drive away from Trogir and make an extraordinary day trip. About 3km from Trogir, on the island of Čiovo is a town called Okrug Gornji. It has 1km long beach with lots of bars right next to sea. The Kamerlengo Fortress, (at the waterfront). This 14. century fortress was build to control access to the harbor and the bay of Kastela.

About the destination: Neum is a city and capital of the municipality of the same name in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The most important activity of Neum is tourism. It is the only coastal town of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its coastline is only 24.5 km and is the only access of the country to the Adriatic Sea, although it has no control over the sea, so it can not build any port. The long southern coastline of Croatia is interrupted by the small corridor of Neum. In fact, the coastal road linking Dubrovnik with the rest of Croatia passes through Neum.

About the destination: George Bernard Shaw called Dubrovnik “the pearl of the Adriatic, a paradise on earth”, and, indeed, it may be one of the most beautiful cities you’ll ever see. Largely built and long inhabited by Venetians, Dubrovnik possesses a stately charm and striking architectural unity that draw thousands of visitors every summer. Founded in 7th century, Dubrovnik stood amid a great forest of oak trees, from which it took its name. Take a walk atop the old city walls for vistas of the old town and the surrounding coast. Just before exiting the old town through the western gate, turn right to visit the Franciscan Monastery and peaceful cloisters. Just inside the entrance is the oldest European pharmacy, founded in 1371. In the northern corner of the old city is the Dominican Cloister and Museum, with a polyptych by Titian. The impressive Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands in the centre of Poljana Marin Držić and its treasury can be visited; look for the work by Raphael. Dubrovnik has warm, crystalline waters; don’t just admire it from a distance and take a dive. The intrepid can dive and sunbathe along the rocks or swim around the walls of the city while others gawk above. Dubrovnik’s impressive battlements gleam in the early morning light, but by early afternoon, the sea’s clear blue waters beckon you away from the city and its tourist din. If you can stand the crunch, you, too, may find a piece of heaven.
